Trump Calls Relatives of Injured Guard Personnel to White House
Former President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Memorials across the state have taken place in their honor.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told reporters. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”
Community Response
Community members assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that educators wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her former high school, told the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Service plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Actions and Government Adjustments
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The event prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum applications and cease issuing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to speak to the family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had bravery,” Morrisey told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
