The original creators of the famous ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has claimed that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch for a new Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that established the company alongside his partner, revealed how he plans to personally create this new flavor within a personal series showcasing issues Ben & Jerry's was barred from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Involving Founders versus Corporate Owner

This latest announcement escalates the ongoing conflict among the internationally recognized ice cream maker with Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods giant which has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted that the parent company and their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's from "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Flavor becoming a Symbol for Solidarity

Mr. Cohen stated via an Instagram video that he's developing an innovative watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas for naming options plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated from his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem for support for the Palestinian people because of its coloration, that mirror the colors in Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Previous Social Engagement and Current Developments

In 2021, the ice cream company refused to sell their merchandise in areas under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company transferring the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales within the occupied West Bank.

The new product line is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist dessert company which was first established several years back for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Changes and Future Plans

The founder stated that he plans to develop other frozen dessert varieties that address concerns which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement comes after partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at the company recently, following many years of involvement, mentioning worries regarding how the company's autonomy had been undermined after Unilever's decision to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen stated that “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy so that it can fulfill the social mission, the principles that established its foundation while upholding for over 40 years," he explained to media outlets.
