Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
Slot highlighted familiar shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with results this poor.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
