Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
