LA Dodgers Survive in Toronto to Set Up Decisive Game 7 in Fall Classic

This year's World Series is going to a decisive seventh game after the Los Angeles Dodgers kept their title defense hopes intact on Friday with a three to one victory over the Blue Jays in Game 6.

The reigning title holders ended Toronto’s ninth-inning rally with a dramatic final twin killing, silencing a home audience that had arrived prepared to celebrate the team's championship in 32 years.

Game 6 Summary

The Dodgers produced all of their offense in the third inning. With two away, Shohei Ohtani was intentionally walked before Will Smith hit a two-bagger to left to score Tommy Edman. Freeman drew a walk to fill the bases, and Betts came through with a two-RBI hit to left, handing the Dodgers a 3–0 lead.

Betts’ hit snapped a postseason slump and rekindled the title holders' hopes of being the first repeat championship victors since the Yankees won three straight from 1998 to 2000.

Mound Battle

Kevin Gausman had been dominant to that point, striking out six of the initial seven batters he confronted. He fanned 8 through three frames, matching a Fall Classic record, but the third-inning barrage proved costly. The Toronto ace finished with 8 Ks over six frames, yielding three earned runs on three safeties and two free passes.

Yamamoto, in contrast, was solid again under stress. The 27-year-old right-hander outpitched Gausman for the second time in a seven days, giving up one run on five hits over six frames with six Ks. He boosted his record to 4–1 this postseason with a 1.56 ERA.

The lone score against him resulted from Springer’s two-out base hit in the third inning, scoring Barger, who had hit a double previously in the frame. Springer’s hit provided a momentary lift in his return to the starting nine after sitting out a pair of contests with an side strain.

Bullpen Heroics

After that, the Dodgers’ bullpen took over. Rookie Wrobleski escaped a jam in the seventh inning, and fellow rookie Sasaki worked into the ninth before hitting Alejandro Kirk to open the inning. Addison Barger then hit a double that got stuck under the left-center-field fence, obliging base runners to stay at second and third.

Tyler Glasnow, Los Angeles’ third game starter, came on in a relief role and induced a pop fly before Giménez lined to left field. Enrique Hernández caught the ball and fired to second to double off Barger, sealing the win and earning the pitcher his first-ever save.

Looking Ahead: Game 7

The series now boils down to one game. Scherzer will start for Toronto, making him the only living pitcher to pitch in multiple World Series Game 7s after doing so in 2019 with Washington. The 40-year-old inked a single-season contract to chase another championship and has been a vocal leader throughout this postseason.

The Dodgers, looking to be baseball’s first back-to-back title winners in nearly a quarter-century, are projected to rely on Shohei Ohtani for a brief appearance.
