A Russian General Dies in Moscow Explosion, Officials Report.
Investigative Source
An esteemed Russian army officer has been fatally wounded following an explosion in Moscow, according to an investigative body.
The attack took place on Monday morning when an IED concealed beneath a vehicle was set off, causing the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' department for training operations.
The committee mentioned that one possible explanation involves the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. At this time, Ukraine has not issued a comment.
Scene of the Blast
Officials have been dispatched to the site, which is understood to be in a south district of the capital.
Reports indicate the explosion happened in a parking area adjacent to a residential building.
Pattern of Assaults
Since the onset of the large-scale conflict in Ukraine, a string of Russian military officials have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.
This new event echoes other serious incidents, for instance:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a explosive concealed on a scooter was triggered from afar.
While a source from Ukraine previously attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such claims are rarely officially confirmed as a matter of standard practice.
The war has been marked by covert operations moving into the streets of the Russian capital.
The investigation into General Sarvarov's death continues to be active.
