A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
